Cultivation & Procurement
The quality of our products is close to our hearts, which is why we tackle it directly at the root! The raw materials we process are procured from our own cultivation centres, the surrounding countryside, and a carefully selected crop of contractual partners.
We have built up a comprehensive sourcing system, which enables us to operate worldwide. Our network is built on cooperation with trusted long-term partnerships.
We are constantly striving to expand our network in order to include innovative and bespoke products in our range. This approach helps us to react quickly and flexibly to external circumstances when serving your requests, no matter how exotic they may be.
We pay special attention to comply with GACP guidelines when growing our own products. With the aid of standardised processes, we continuously offer our customers high and consistent quality.
We work with trained and experienced collectors when sourcing materials from the wild. In order to guarantee access to these raw materials in the future, we hold a variety of harvesting licenses, which also support a sustainable approach to nature, which is very important to us.
Our in-depth knowledge of the products we use, cultivation methods, harvesting times, and unique understanding of the local environments which surround production allow us to access exquisite materials of the finest quality. This enables us to offer our customers excellent quality at a fair price, at all times.
Product Development & Quality Assurance
Our exceptional blend of GACP and GMP ensures seamless quality assurance from the field to the customer. Every product can be traced back to cultivation and the continuous monitoring of the entire value chain ensures their outstanding quality. Corrective measures are implemented if any disruption or deviation occurs during the production process, enabling us to react quickly and
efficiently. Our quality assurance department communicates directly with our suppliers, evaluating the performance and jointly discussing possibilities for
improvement. In this way, we have been able to constantly improve quality and strengthen mutual trust over many years of cooperation with our suppliers.
We at Aromaplant conduct regular risk assessments and quality assurance measures to guarantee the highest level of food safety for our customers. Special attention to critical control points in the production process have been identified according to HACCP guidelines and are monitored continuously. Furthermore, our production sites are ISO FSSC 22000 certified. In addition to international standards, we follow internal guidelines in the areas of quality.
assurance, sustainability, and animal welfare, that far exceed these requirements.
We have invested in a state-of-the-art laboratory to guarantee the quality of our products and to ensure that they meet with our specifications. We examine the identity, purity, content and contamination properties of the raw materials we receive in accordance with industry standards. We use a range of measurement technologies to determine the content of plant-based ingredients, additives and pesticide residues with diverse methods and measurement technologies such as spectrophotometers, GC-MS, LC-MS, HPLCS, and many more.
Primary Processing
It is particularly important to process freshly harvested materials in our products, as valuable natural ingredients can only be preserved this way.
Fresh products are carefully dehydrated in our 5-belt or Fluidised-bed-dryer, directly after delivery. This increases a product’s shelf life, and prepares it for further processing.
Particularly sensitive products require disinfestation to kill insects, larvae, eggs and other pests before further processing. We have our own facilities for this purpose, using vacuum and CO2 treatments to remove pests reliably. Some raw materials are naturally contaminated (microbially) and must be treated delicately with our sterilisation equipment.
Thanks to our expertise and our modern technology, you can always be sure that our products meet your high requirements.
Products are further processed according to their intended use and desired size. Our cutting machines and grinders offer a wide range of cut and particle sizes. These sizes include, for example, tea bag cut, fine cut or drug powder.
Goods are homogenised at our blending plant where metal detectors and X-ray equipment also scan the goods for possible foreign bodies.
We have a gravity separator, colour sorter, and for particularly demanding products we also sort goods by hand. Our attention to detail means that you can always be sure that our goods are free from foreign bodies, comply with specifications, and are delivered homogeneously.
Extraction & Evaporation
Extraction is the dissolving of ingredients. It employs two processing techniques in particular: Maceration & Percolation.
Maceration, also called equilibrium extraction, is a physical process in which the soluble components of a substance are transferred into fluid form by exposure to a liquid.
Percolation is an exhaustive extraction of herbal drugs from fresh produce.
In this process, a liquid flows through a solid substrate, washing out extract-rich compounds.
Our production plant handles both of these processing techniques, offering you ideal product dependent solutions. We have 5 different Turbo-macerators with Percolators and a continuous extraction facility.
Our ATEX compliant production plant uses an array of solvents such as ethanol, methanol and n-hexane to obtain the best extraction result for each product. In order to meet even the highest quality standards in the pharmaceutical sector we run a state-of-the-art water treatment plant on site that cleans our water to absolute purity. Extracts obtained are then separated from solvents and thickened.
Product-protective evaporation technologies are used to accommodate non-thermostable ingredients. Our plant is equipped with a different evaporator suitable for extremely sensitive products.
We will help you find the ideal solution for your product from our extensive range of options.
Filtration & Pasteurisation
We achieve maximum product clarity using our filter presses, centrifuges and crossflow membrane technology for the filtration of plant extracts and fruit juices.
These products are mainly used in RTD products. For thermo sensitive products, we use reverse osmosis water distillation and pasteurisation. This is a purely physical process which removes excess water under pressure.
Pasteurisation destroys yeast cells and microorganisms and increases the shelf life of our products. Edible produce requires careful and clinical handling at all times.
Individual products have unique heating times which we achieve through a system of plates and stainless-steel tubes, creating the optimum environment to treat your product.
Short-time heating or ultra-short-time heating (UHT) is conducted before drying the viscous extract.
Then immediately after pasteurisation and under aseptic conditions, the semi-finished products are packed into suitable containers of 5kg to 200kg, using a bag-in-box filling system.
Distillation, Rectification & Adsorption
In addition to processing and refining plant-based materials, we extract natural flavours from both fruits and plants, focusing mainly on FTNF flavours.
The production process is based on distillation technology. A mixture is heated, until a substance volatilises.
This substance is then recaptured by a condenser. Our GMP-certified production plant has several tanks calibrated for this process with a capacity of between 50l and 5,000l.
Following distillation, the distillate is refined by rectification. This thermal separation process isolates two or more substances from a homogeneous solution.
We have several rectification columns equipped with up to 36 thermal trays, empowering us to further purify and concentrate the obtained extract.
We have additional purification steps in place. These include, among others, dissolving, precipitation, ion exchange and adsorption. To enrich certain components or separate unwanted ingredients (e.g.: PAs), we have small and large absorption devices, which give us and the customer more choice when responding to certain needs.
Drying & Packing
Dry extracts can be made into pills, coated pills and capsules. A dry powder is obtained by evaporating any residual solvents. At this stage we use 3 spray dryers with a steam, 2 of which are GMP-certified.
In addition, we have 3 vacuum dryers with capacities of up to 5mbar. Vacuum drying is a particularly delicate method of drying at low temperatures. This preserves the valuable compounds, a cornerstone of our products’ exquisite quality. For smaller product quantities, we use a microwave vacuum dryer and pharma-compliant freeze dryer.
Using innovative technologies, we can further process spray-dried products. At our GMP-certified Agglomeration plant, individual particles are bound together to form larger granules. This process improves the material properties by contributing to dust reduction, and facilitates the handling and storage of the end product.
Our products are then packed in paper bags with poly-liners, cardboard boxes, hobbocks or IBCs in various sizes. We’re experienced experts at selecting the ideal packaging for any product and will be happy to advise you on this.
There is a slight overpressure in our drying rooms. We have installed an independent ventilation system where the air supply is cleaned through a HEPA filter. These measures protect your products from impurities, and possible cross-contamination in the production process.
